Mokum Solutions, LLC is a data governance and AI-readiness practice built around one person's judgment — and, in FiduLock, a working example of that judgment in production.
Thirty-five years in enterprise data, analytics, and governance — including roughly two decades leading large-scale data transformation inside a global financial institution. That work is where the case for Mokum Solutions, LLC actually comes from: watching governance programs stall under their own manual effort, and building something that doesn't.
“Mokum” is Yiddish for “city.” In the 18th century, Jewish communities across Europe used it as a general placeholder for any city, distinguished by adding a Hebrew letter — Mokum Alef, Mokum Beis, and so on. Amsterdam became known specifically as Mokum Alef, City Aleph, because it offered a relatively safe refuge for Jewish communities fleeing persecution in Spain, Portugal, and elsewhere in Europe.
Other cities carried the nickname too, at one point or another. Only Amsterdam kept it. Locals still call it Mokum today, without irony — in songs, in Ajax's terrace chants, in ordinary conversation.
Amsterdam is also where Ron van der Laan was born. The name isn't a marketing invention — it's borrowed the way Amsterdam itself borrowed the word: something that began as a name for refuge became a name people say with pride.
“Work smart, not hard. No jargon that doesn't earn its place, and no governance program that exists to look good in a slide deck.”
Nuchter — Dutch for sober, pragmatic, no-nonsense. It's the operating philosophy behind every engagement, not a poster on the wall.
Most advisory work stops at a recommendation. Mokum Solutions, LLC went further and built FiduLock — a working platform that enforces the same rules this practice recommends to clients. If an idea can't survive being built, it doesn't belong in an assessment either.
